Bonafide Ways to Improve Your Concentration During Cornhole
Take Your Cornhole Game to The Next Level
Cornhole may look like a simple game, but if you have ever played before you know it’s far from simple. What may look like “throwing bags” to some is carefully calculated tosses requiring extreme precision to others. If not played correctly, Cornhole is a surefire way to make yourself look like a fool if you’re playing against a seasoned veteran. Luckily, there are ways to increase your chances of winning and improve your concentration during Cornhole.
Want to win the Cornhole Championship at your family or friend’s cookout this year? Follow these tips and you will be well on your way to an easy victory…or two.
Choose Your Partner Wisely
Having a trustworthy partner is one of the most underrated aspects of playing Cornhole. When you have two partners who trust each other, your team has an overwhelming advantage over the other because your partner is the one closest to your board and the one most capable of seeing your next shot before you throw. Having a partner who can also motivate you and encourage you to hit your next shot after your past couple attempts have gone awry can also elevate your Cornhole game to the next level.
Start with Your Stance
Your stance is crucial in all sports, but none more so than in Cornhole. The two most common throwing stances either standing still and allowing your arm to do the throwing or taking a step to provide some momentum in your throw. Either stance is fine, but having fluid body movements is the most important part of your throw. You don’t want your body to do any jerky movements when you’re throwing or you might lose all accuracy in your shot. Once you find the stance that is most comfortable for you, you have a solid foundation to build the rest of your game on.
Aiming for Success
Cornhole is a mental game and finding a way to zone out, get in a groove, and avoid all distractions is crucial if you seek victory. Having an eagle-like focus on the hole, ensuring the bag is evenly distributed in your throwing hand, and maintaining eye contact with your bag until it has successfully landed are three major points to keep in mind while playing. A Cornhole bag should sit squarely in your hand with your index finger hugging the corner of the bag. As you get ready to throw and begin to swing your arm back like a pendulum, visualize your bag soaring through the air with a slightly curved arc.
Don’t give too much thought about the bag landing directly in the hole, as that is a common mistake among many Cornhole players. Focus for the first six inches of the board and the bag will do the rest when it slides across the board. People who aim for the hole often completely overshoot the board itself.
Cornhole Is for Closers
It may look like a fun activity, but for the extremely competitive type, Cornhole isn’t for the faint of heart. There are many different ways you can choose to approach a game of Cornhole, take some time to research and see what style suits your best. Some like to throw their bag like a sling, others like a Frisbee, some overhand, underhand, fold-over, or even a jump toss. You may have to put in some ‘research and development hours’ to perfect your toss through trial and error. No matter if the game is competitive or casual, Cornhole is an art form that should be treated as such.
